Furniture ReVamp: Antique Vanity

Over a year ago I found this little vanity on craigslist.  This is a great piece of furniture and has 4 deep drawers making this a great vanity, dresser or desk.

Here is the before pic (I forgot to take the pic before I removed the round mirror):

Since it was already in great shape all I did was lightly sand, add two layers of Kilz primer, and then painted with a nice bright, white.

I love the simple design of this piece.

Pretty pink acrylic knobs are a perfect pairing!

The finished product- a beautiful vanity!

Craft Time: Snowman Foot Prints

I spend lots of time on Pinterest searching for new craft ideas.  So, when little brother's preschool announced a Snowman decorating contest last week I knew that I had to check out my faves on Pinterest to see what I could enter. I ran across this really cute and super easy snowman a few months ago and had pinned it for a fun idea.

The original Snowman was applied to a t-shirt -

I decided to make my Snowman into a door hanger using regular cardstock and some ribbon:

A little white paint applied to the bottom of those cute footsies – be prepared for giggling baby – and then transfer ‘footprint’ to cardstock.  I found that the high chair was a handy helper to keep baby from moving around too much during the painting and transferring process.

I decorated the Snowman with a black top hat cut from my cricut machine (Paper Dolls cartridge), ‘coal’ eyes and buttons made from a hole punch and black paper.  His scarf is an old shoestring and the snowflakes are from the Accents cricut cartridge.

Countdown to Thanksgiving: Pumpkin Pie

When you think of Thanksgiving desserts the first thing that comes to mind has to be Pumpkin Pie.  I enjoy the traditional pumpkin pie but my all-time favorite pumpkin recipe has to be the Libby's Pumpkin Roll.  Here are some great pumpkin recipes that take the classic taste of pumpkin pie to the next level.  Now to choose which one to make!

Giving Thanks

I glanced at the calendar this weekend and realized that Thanksgiving is just around the corner... where does the time go!  Our family is planning the traditional turkey and trimmings for this coming weekend, as we all tend to scatter around the state during the actual holiday.

I was looking on pinterest for interesting decorating ideas.  Here is a neat way to re-purpose that Halloween pumpkin (if you didn't cut it!) into a Harvest pumpkin:

Use a stamp to add your special message of thanks- very clever and these mini pumkins shown make a nice addition to your Thanksgiving decorations.

And, I love this idea to decorate the table:

I will be spending the next few days digging in my recipe box for great holiday treats and will be sure to list a few here, too.

Antique Chair Refinish: Hot Pink!

I ran across these darling chairs at a local 'junk'tique store that I love to browse.  They had my name written all over them.  I love the curves and the design in the back- everyone thinks it look like a heart!

The chairs were a great buy at only $20 for the pair and will go great in the new craft space that I am creating in a spare room off the garage (more to come on that later!).  I just sanded, applied a thin layer of Kilz and then two layers of Krylon spray paint in glossy Frosty Berry.

For the chair seats, I removed the old fabric and padding, added a 2" piece of foam and covered with a black damask pattern.  It was my first time recovering a chair but it was so much easier than I thought - my new favorite tool is my upholstery stapler!

Project breakdown: $20 for the chairs, $10 for 2 cans of spray paint (I already had the Kilz and sandpaper), $7 for fabric, $5 for foam, and $13 for the staple gun and a box of staples- which will be handy for my next project!

The total cost for both chairs was $55.

My Favorite Things: Color

My new favorite color is turquoise- I just have this need to paint every piece of furniture and home accent piece that I find in this bright and cheerful color.  Up until now the main colors in our home have been the lovely jewel tones - dark green, maroon and gold - which was great over 10 years ago when they were in style... It is really past time for an update!

The plan: to subtly integrate turquoise into the decor of my little farm house.  There is tons of inspiration for furniture painted turquoise on the web.  Here are a few of my favorite things - I absolutely love the table with the turquoise legs and stained top - I am so doing this to our pine dining table!
